These organizations organize meetings, provide research grants for scientists in the field and other activities for the promotion of biochemistry. Any scientist active in the field should be able to become member of such an organization, and this is regarded as a major criterium for selection of the sites listed in this category

The Japanese Biochemical Society
Established in 1925, and joined Japan Medical Society in 1926, it became an incorporated association in 1965. This society has a membership of 13,620 in 1998, consisting of biochemists and molecular biologists.
